Meet Shannon Wise. Shannon has been facilitating A-1 Community Housing Services First Time Homebuyer Certification Workshops since December 2020. Shannon is a HUD Certified Housing Counselor who has been delivering comprehensive homebuyer education and training to hundreds of clients.

Purchasing a home is a major financial decision and it's important to fully understand the process. A-1 Community Housing services encourages all our clients to take a homebuyer class before they start the journey towards homeownership. Attending a HUD-Approved First-Time Homebuyer class empowers our clients to better navigate and understand the home buying process and prepare to become successful homeowner.

FIRST TIME HOMEBUYER CERTIFICATION WORKSHOP | FREE III PART SERIES VIRTUAL CLASS CERTIFICATION WORKSHOP:

The course gives an in-depth look at:

  • Preparing for homeownership

  • Managing money

  • Understanding the importance of credit

  • Qualifying for a mortgage

  • Shopping for a home

  • Available down payment assistance and grant information

  • Post Purchase

All participants will receive a First Time Homebuyer Toolkit which will include tools, resources and information to help navigate the homebuying process and access to the class curriculum.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in the upcoming three-part series certification course, please complete your intake form here. Once received, call-in information will be emailed directly to you.

You must complete Part I & Part II in order to qualify for the certification. Part III is a one-on-one phone counseling session. Clients are still required to complete a phone counseling appointment in order to receive certification of completion.

E-HOME - ONLINE CERTIFICATION CLASS FOR $99:

In partnership with eHome America, exceeding national industry standards, this course creates knowledgeable and default-resilient buyers ready for a lifetime of homeownership. Easily accessible through any device 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you can learn the ins and outs by taking the comprehensive, fun and engaging course at your own pace. This course does have a $99 fee and is offered in English and Spanish, you can register by clicking the button below:

Once you have completed the course, please contact our office to schedule your one-on-one counseling session. In order to receive your certification, you need to complete both the course and counseling session.

HOME PRESERVATION Workshops:

Our workshops focus on providing residents with information on homeownership preservation. Including understanding the foreclosure process, what is a forbearance agreement, working with lenders and looking at future options based on the homeowners needs. We provide referrals to financial assistance programs and resources. Workshops are held monthly in English and Spanish. All attendees will also receive a link to our foreclosure prevention toolkit with additional resources and information on ways to help them navigate through the loss mitigation process.

Rental counseling workshop:

Current and future renters are encouraged to join our FREE workshop to learn about:

  • Protecting yourself from eviction & housing loss

  • Connecting to resources to assist with utility bill and other rental support

  • How to improve credit scores for renting

  • Savings goals for overcoming renting barriers

  • Steps to find affordable housing

  • An overview of fair housing laws and discrimination

  • An overview of tenant rights

At the end, please take the opportunity to schedule a one-on-one counseling session with a HUD Certified counselor.
